A beautiful illustration of the world's chief mountains (from the point of view of Britain in 1850) by James Emslie, just one page of a partwork on science published in that year by James Reynolds of 174 The Strand, London. The most noticeable absence is of course Mount Everest - Kangchenjunga and Dhaulagiri were thought to be the worlds highest, until Everest ("peak B") was surveyed, making this diagram out of date only two years after it was printed.

Measures approximately 62 x 48cm.
100% cotton.
Corner hanging tab.
