Chladni Figures Tea Towel

Adapted from a page of Ernst Florens Friedrich Chladni's 1787 Entdeckungen über die Theorie des Klanges, in which "the father of acoustics" showed the results of metal plates coated with powder being vibrated with a violin bow. The powder comes to rest in lines where the plate is not moving, and shows how the shape and sound of the vibrations can be altered by (for example) a finger placed at the right spot.
